ASeptember events in and around Lode

Friday 31 August to Sunday 2 September. LodeStar Festival, featuring Sir Bob Geldof, Frankie Rose, Michele Stoddart and Katzenjammer – plus theatre, circus, comedy workshops and much more for all the family to enjoy. St James’ Church will be running a bun stall in the Village Green tent every day.

Saturday 1 September. See Oscar Wilde’s classic play The Importance of Being Earnest performed by the Pantaloons at Anglesey Abbey. Tickets £14 adult, £10 child, £46 family. 6.00 p.m.

Sunday 2 September. Sacred space: an hour of quiet reflection. Lode Chapel, 5.30 p.m.

Wednesday 5 September. Women’s Institute Open Meeting. Hear Elizabeth Brown talking about “Dad’s Army: the series and the actors”. Raffle, refreshments. Everyone welcome. Lode Chapel, 7.30 p.m.

Friday 7 September. An evening’s entertainment with John Woodhouse, ex-Mayor of Cambridge, with his Elvis Tribute and more. Free entry from 8.30 p.m.

Sunday 9 September. Traditional evening service at Lode Chapel, 6.20 p.m.

Monday 10 September (and 17 & 24 September). Pilates. Lode Chapel, 7.00 p.m.
Monday 10 September. Parish Council meeting. Fassage Hall, 7.30 p.m.

Thursday 13 September (and 20 & 27 September). Little Lode Monkeys parent and toddler group. Lode Chapel, 10.00–11.30 a.m.

Thursday 13 September (and 27 September). The friendly In Stitches knitting and craft club meets at the Social Club – everyone welcome. 8.00 p.m.

Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 September. Harvest Festival Weekend.
The church is open all weekend for you to view the floral and produce displays. Teas available 2.00–3.00 p.m. on the Saturday.
The Family Harvest Service is at 5.30 p.m. on the Sunday followed by a bring-and-share supper in the Social Club at 6.30 p.m. Please sign the form at the back of the church if you would like to come to the supper, or speak to Julie Sale on (01223) 811222.

Saturday 15 September. Quiz Night at the Social Club in aid of Cancer Research. Entry £3 per person, with teams of up to six. The evening will also feature a raffle, prizes for which will be very welcome. 7.30 for 8.00 p.m. start.

Thursday 20 September. Mothers’ Union meeting. Lode Chapel, 2.00 p.m.

Friday 21 September. Fish & Chip Supper at the Social Club followed by entertainment from Brian Roy – an old friend who has entertained us for several years at the Club’s Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party. All proceeds from the evening will go towards the Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party, but tickets (£6, to include the Fish & Chip Supper) must be purchased by Sunday 16 September so that numbers are known for catering purposes. 7.30 p.m.

Saturday 22 September. A night of “Hunky Funky”, Soul, Motown and Northern Soul at the Social Club with Wayne Astran and LJ plus a Special Guest DJ. Great sound system and lights. Entry £4 at the door.

Wednesday 26 September. Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Social Club, 10.30 a.m.–12 noon.

Thursday 27 September. Charity Film Night for Cambridgeshire Mencap at The Missing Sock, Stow-Cum-Quy, doors open 6.30 p.m.. Entrance free, donations to the charity welcome. "Forrest Gump".
